My ZTE Wireless Broadband USB modem has been working well until a few days ago when I gave away my laptop to a friend for a few days. When she returned it, the modem could not connect to the internet, and shows the error in the picture attached. What might be the problem?

Opening Port….

Error 797: A connection to the remote access server was not made because the modem was not found.

ZTE Wireless Broadband USB Modem Error

When you connect the modem to the computer, does it light up to show that indeed it has been connected to the computer that you are using? I am suspecting that the problem here has to do with the drivers. The wireless or the modem drivers might have been tampered with and therefore you will need to check that.

  • Go to My Computer and right click on it.
  • Choose system properties.
  • In the window that opens click on device manager.
  • In the next window, locate the modem drivers and see if they are installed.
  • If not they you will need to install them. Right click and choose update driver to install them.
