I have Microsoft Word 2000.

I saved many important files. When I double click the file that is opened with NotePad, it's a major problem.

I created new Word file.

That also opened with Notepad, and it lost the main format.

How can it open with Word 2000?

This means that Notepad is set as the default program for opening any word file, thus such files open with Notepad and loses its main format. You just have to change the default program to Microsoft Word 2000.

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Right click on the file you wish to open with MS Word 2000, and point to ‘Open with…”
  2. Click ‘Choose a default program’
  3. The ‘Open with…’ dialog box will appear with a list of Recommended Programs. Find ‘MS Word 2000’. If you don’t see it, click ‘Other programs’ or ‘Browse’ (depending on computer) and find ‘MS Word 2000’. Select ‘MS Word 2000’ and check the ‘Always use the selected program to open this kind of file’ dialog box located at the bottom part of the dialog box.
  4.  Click ‘OK’

Now, when you double click your Word files, it will be opened with MS Word 2000. Hope this helps.

Hello!

Change the file association so that documents in .doc or .docx automatically opens in Microsoft Word..

The procedure for doing this is start – default programs – click on associate a file type or protocol with a program – click on .doc – select change program – select Microsoft Word – click ok.
