Windows XP with Windows 8

I am currently having Windows XP fully installed in the C-drive of my hard disk. To give a trial on Windows 8, I have downloaded a version of Windows 8 DP and successfully installed in the D-drive of the same hard disk of mine. As I installed Windows 8 DP, I was unable to boot into Windows XP hence using the repair mode, I could luckily boot into XP, but the same problem occurred for Win8 now.

Now I cannot boot into Win8. Please someone tell me how can I boot both the operating systems simultaneously using dual boot. I will be very thankful to be helped.

You get this error when you overwrite the boot loader of windows XP over the windows 7 or windows 8. There is a very easy procedure to enable dual boot in your computer.

  1. Download and install EasyBCD from here. Actually what this software does is that it enables you to recreate the boot loader.
  2. Once installed open it. Click Add new entry. In the new entry select Type which has Windows XP written. Make sure to check the box below it which says automatically detect driver etc. Click on add new entry.
  3. Once done, go to BCD deployment. Click on the first option which says install boot loader MDR for windows vista/7. Don't select the second option. Click on write MDR.
  4. After it is done, close it and restart. Now you will be able to see both listings of the operating system.

You can use the same method if you want to tri boot or quad boot.
