Hi there James K Belvins,

I think what you mean is Linux distribution on Windows Azure.

Microsoft announced that Windows Azure – Microsoft's cloud computing is no longer "Platform as a Service" but now it will have the element "Infrastructure as a Service" in the hope would be more attractive to developers and users of Amazon Web Services, cloud computing and other service users to come. Thus, as presented in a high-ranking official blog Microsoft's Bill Laing.

With this announcement, Microsoft seems serious to support not only of its own software, but also third-party software. At present Microsoft with Windows Azure already supports Linux, Java, PHP and other third-party applications to some extent.

The latest update even mentions the four major Linux distribution which is CentOS, SUSE Linux, Open SUSE and Ubuntu are supported by the Windows Azure platform in the presence of "persistent virtual machines" that can be used by the user to run all four operating systems earlier.

The Linux Distribution that support on windows azure :

  • OpenSUSE 12.1
  • CentOS 6.2
  • Ubuntu 12.04
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP2
