Hi there,

I have acquired a new Dell Vostro V 131 which has Windows 8 preinstalled, WiFi was working well then it stopped working, I tried trouble shooting with no positive results, when I was almost giving up, the WiFi came on again, since then it has been on and off, System check shows all devices are in good working order, what could be causing the WiFi to go on and off?

WiFi on and off problem

Hi Garrick,

There are a number of reasons that could be the causing the Wi-Fi to go on and off. However, to solve this problem:

Check to see if the Wi-Fi switch is on or off.

Check if the “Airplane Mode” is off or on, make sure that it is off and the Wi-Fi is on.

Make sure the Wi-Fi network is not disabled.

Use Windows diagnostic feature to automatically detect and fix the incompatibility issue of the Wi-Fi connectivity. I hope this information helps.

Since that problem is with the Wi-Fi connection, try to uninstall and reinstall the Wi-Fi adapter driver. Download the free version of Revo Uninstaller and install. Once installed, start Revo then select your wireless network adapter software among the applications and click “Uninstall.” Follow the normal uninstall process. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click to restart later.

When uninstall is complete, click “Scan” to scan your computer for any leftover files and click to delete everything it finds. This removes everything the program created on your computer. When it is finished, exit Revo then restart the computer. After booting, install the Wi-Fi adapter driver back. If you need updated drivers for your laptop, go to the Dell Vostro V131 support page.

The page should detect your operating system automatically. If the page shows a different operating system, select your correct operating system on the right. Download and install all available drivers and software for your laptop.
