At the time I attempt to link Microsoft Outlook 2007 or 2010 to Microsoft Exchange Server, I see the 'exchange server unavailable' error.  Why this?

This problem could be occurred if you client computer doesn’t have the configuration of a default gateway. You have to add the DWORD value in the DEfConnectOpts registry.

In Outlook 10:

  1. Start-Run-Type regedit and press Enter.
  2. Locate the following key and click the subkey:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice14.0OutlookRPC

  1. Select New from the edit Menu and click DWORD value.
  2. Then Type DefConnectOpts and press Enter.
  3. Right click DefConnectOpts and click Modify.
  4. Type 0 in the value data box and click OK.
  5. Exit Registry Editor.
