Hi guys.  I have a Flash video file that I want to play on my desktop.  I'm having a  message of "flv codec needs to be installed to play this file".  I'm on a Linux Fedora Verne OS.  Where can I find flv codec Fedora 16?  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi,

You can get Codecs flv fedora 16 at the http://softwaretopic.informer.com/codecs-flv-fedora-16/ website. From this site you can download it and install it on your Linux Fedora Verne OS. However, if you were using the previous version, Codecs flv fedora 15, you can visit the linuxandfriends.com website and get step by step instructions on how to upgrade to Codecs flv fedora 16.

Hi.

All cosecs are available from Fedora`s repository via package manager. Open your terminal and type in

su -c "curl https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/66055/play-video-files-in-fedora -o /etc/yum.repos.d/fedorautils.repo && yum install fedorautils"

This command will install and setup Fedora utils to your system. To install cosecs type in terminal

sudo yum localinstall –nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm
sudo yum localinstall –nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm
go to Fedora rpm page for keys and download Fedora package keys and Fedora repo keys. Go back to terminal and type sudo yum install gstreamer1 gstreamer1-plugins-good gstreamer1-plugins-bad-freeworld gstreamer1-plugins-ugly. And you need ffmpeg and a good player so installe them to sudo yum install ffmpeg vlc.

If you have flash videos (*.flv) on your computer and you want to watch them, you need a media player that supports playback of FLV files. Since you are using Linux Fedora, download VLC media player for Fedora. This is the version of VLC media player designed for Linux Fedora operating system.

If you are using Linux Fedora 22 or higher, here’s how to install VLC media player from RPM Fusion:

$> su –
#> dnf install https://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm
#> dnf install vlc
#> dnf install python-vlc npapi-vlc (optionals)

If you are using an older version of Linux Fedora, unfortunately, they are no longer supported by the Fedora Project. If you have Linux Fedora 14 until 21, here’s a way to install VLC media player:

$> su –
#> yum localinstall –nogpgcheck https://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm
#> yum install vlc
#> yum install python-vlc npapi-vlc (optionals)
