The way the spelling checker works is that it compares the words in your document with the words in the main dictionary.

The main dictionary contains the most common words we use. It doesn’t contain the technical terms, acronyms, intentional misspellings etc. Properly.

If you use such words or capitalize them to a custom dictionary by clicking “Add to dictionary” sometimes may prevent the dictionary from working properly. If the spelling checker is not showing any error when you know that the spelling is not right then it might have been added to your custom dictionary with a different capitalization.

If you think that the grammar checker is not working properly then you can customize the option whether if you don’t want to check the errors by the grammar checker itself then you can just turn it off.

If the grammar checker cannot determine the correct linguistic structure of a sentence or it comes across a capitalization it is unsure then it may give you incorrect suggestions.

Now if you want to turn the grammar checker off then follow the steps below.

  1. Click the Microsoft Office Button on the top-left corner.
  2. Click Word Options at the bottom of the menu.
  3. Click Proofing when the dialog box appears in the Word Options.
  4. Click the currently-open document name from the Exceptions for list.
  5. Select or clear the check boxes Hide spelling errors in this document only and Hide grammar errors in this document only.
  6. If you want to turn off automatic grammar checking for all documents, select All New Documents in the Exceptions for list.
  7. Then click OK.

Hi Dev,

It’s true that MS Word does not contain all the words in the dictionary like taxonomy etc.

And therefore it fails to check the correctness of it when you write in MS Word.

I will suggest a really good website called grammarly.com which is a professional proofreader where you can check your spellings online and also grammar.

The steps are really easy:

1. Register on the website,

2. Copy paste your text in the text box given (See image below),

3. Click on the “Check your text” option.

I am sure you will be satisfied.
