I ran a virus scanner and it found some infections. I removed all the viruses as recommended by the antivirus. After the scan, I checked my C: along Windows folder. There's a strange folder named WinXS. What's that? It has some items which have meaningless name. For example, incrypt.dll, codename-911. What's the meaning?
What’s the use of WinXS directory?
Hi Patrcia,
Â
Winsxs refers to Windows Side by Side which represents the Windows cache of the native assembly. Libraries utilized by various applications are being stored here. As seen, the Other file types in this folder take up a huge space. This side by side assembly is being used by the OS and treated as fundamental blocks of binding, naming, version making and deployment apart from configuring the system. This folder is inclusive of optional components, manifests and third party files.
