I checked my steam folder, and I was really confused to find that I had no steam.exe file but a steam exe old file. Are these files the same or not? What is this file? How do I get the steam.exe file or is it not necessary?

the steam exe old is an OLD file that is linked to the Steam bootstrapper. You get steam exe old error when Windows cannot properly load this file. These errors can occur during Windows Startup or while running Steam.

As far as the missing steam.exe file is concerned, as long as your client is working normally, there is no need to disturb a working system. If you insist on having a steam.exe file or want to move your steam folder to another drive partition, then simply rename the steam exe old file to steam.exe and it should work like magic. I should probably inform you that you are not the only one to find the anomaly of sorts. A lot of users find that the exe file is missing. Again, as long as the app is working properly, there is no need for changing anything.
