I have just received a setup box from my internet service provider and received another receiver for my tv. The term ‘IP TV’ has been coined a few times by the installing technician. Can anyone tell me what exactly IP TV is? In my opinion, it is the connection to additional TV channels? Is IT TV possible only with an internet connection?
What is IP TV and other uses?
Hi Gregory,
Â
IPTV is a protocol through which video services are delivered over a packet switched network such as Local Area Network or Internet, instead of the routine and traditional satellite or cable signals.
Â
It can be categorized into three groups namely
1 Live TV
2 Time shifted TV
3 VOD (Video on Demand)

What is IP TV and other uses?
IP TV is an Internet Protocol Television.
Internet protocol suite delivers the television services over a switched packet network, like the Internet or LAN, rather than delivering through satellite signals, traditional terrestrial or cable television formats.
It has the ability to stream the data in batches directly from a source which allows the media player to play the data before the entire file is transmitted. This is known as streaming media.
