My laptop is slow, so I tried to make it lighter by cleaning some programs and also Background programs in the startup section, using MSCONFIG.

I try to clean or disable some programs for being loaded or started when the Windows are turned on.

I found a program that not familiar to me, that is dumprep.exe if I’m not mistaken. Is this a system program or what?

What does this dumprep.exe do?

Thanks for sharing.

The problem you are having my friend is a double barreled one, the thing is dumprep.exe is short for Dump Reporting Tool. Its a error reporting tool that sends back error reports to Microsoft for analysis. As you have mentioned your computer is lagging which means that often times the programs that crash write the error reports to be submitted to Microsoft via dumprep. That being said both situations are linked.

Therefore to answer your question, yes it is indeed a system tool but to be honest unless it is that you plan to have Microsoft have a look into what you're doing on your system you could always disable it, has no real use unless you plan to look up the error codes, which are sometimes misleading to say the least.

Dumprep.exe is a built in fault logging software. Whenever there are serious errors in your system, this program will write the details (as the software's description suggests "logging") on to a text file and this information will then be requested to be sent to Microsoft.

This program also is installed for third party use and is a non-essential system process. You mentioned that your Personal Computer slows down.

You better run a performance scan.

There are free system processes scanners available on the internet; You may as well make use to them just to make sure, your system is error free.
