I have a Microsoft account, and whenever I try to login to it, I keep getting this error code, 0x800b0101, along with the message that that user wasn’t added to that PC. I get this message whenever I try to create a new user via a Microsoft account. How to resolve this?

Sometimes you will get this error if the date and time have been set wrong in your device. So make sure that the entries for date and time are proper to your time zone.

Make sure the email id used to create a Microsoft account is not associated with more than five computers because Microsoft has this limit on the number of devices, Windows live ID can be associated with at the time of login.

If you have created a local account then also you can get this error. You can try to create a new Microsoft account and then login.

You may receive error code “800b0101” when downloading a Windows Update if there is a problem with your computer’s date and time. This has to be correct before you can download and install a Windows Update. To fix the problem, try setting the correct date or just synchronize it with an internet time server. To do this, right-click date and time on the system tray and select “Adjust date/time”.

In “Date and Time” dialog, under “Date and Time” tab, click “Change time zone” then select your correct time zone on the next screen and then click “OK”. Next, go to “Internet Time” tab then click “Change settings”. In “Internet Time Settings” dialog, make sure “Synchronize with an Internet time server” is checked. In “Server”, select a time server from the dropdown list then click “Update now”.

In Windows 7, you can select among the following:

  • time.windows.com
  • time.nist.gov
  • time-nw.nist.gov
  • time-a.nist.gov
  • time-b.nist.gov

In Windows XP, there are only two options available:

  • time.nist.gov
  • time.windows.com

Click “OK” all throughout then try downloading the Windows Update again.
