I run my PC on Windows 7 but I'm facing a very big problem right now. I get the error 'Windows Explorer has stopped working' when I click on a folder or anything else. What might be causing this issue? How can I fix this error? Any suggestions on fixing this problem, please post.

My own thoughts on the issue are the same with what Microsoft says on the Windows Explorer issue. According to Microsoft, possible causes of the problem are: outdated video graphics adapter driver, there are problems on your operating system particularly the system files, a virus is making its rounds on your computer, and conflicts with other applications or services that run on your computer.

To make sure if it is a virus, update your antivirus then run a full system scan. If a virus is found, remove it then download Sophos Virus Removal Tool. This tool is used to clean an already infected computer. Use it to make sure your computer is perfectly clean. The installation requires internet access so don’t disconnect when installing the tool.

If the problem is not with a virus, try updating your video card driver. If you are using an NVIDIA video card, visit NVIDIA Driver Downloads. If you are using an ATI Radeon graphics adapter, visit AMD Drivers Download Center. You can also check your system for possible problems using PC Tools Performance Toolkit.

Use it to find and fix problems on the registry and your hard drive. Checking your hard drive for errors can check the status of the files like if there are corrupted files, broken files, cross-linked files, and other file errors. In case there are problems on the system drive that can’t be fixed, you may probably need to reinstall Microsoft Windows.
