I would like to know what is the default port Google talk used because I'm having trouble connecting. I suspect that some ports are blocked or is it something I don't know? Can anybody tell me what are the required ports to use Google Talk and how to enable them? Thanks a lot.

Hello, If you are having trouble connecting to Google Talk through your firewall or proxy, it may be because some necessary ports are blocked.

In order to connect to Google Talk and start sending IMs, you will need to enable TCP connections to talk.google.com on port 5222, or on port 443.

If you would like to make calls or transfer files through Google Talk, you need to :

  • Enable UDP connections to anywhere on any port; or
  • Enable TCP connections to anywhere on port 443.

Say thanks if it works.

Hi Kim Brauer,

Google is very large web search engine. Mostly used it by the hole world.

Chat through this server can took place by many ways. You can use proxy settings for Google chat.

To send IMs you have to connect to the Google Talks. For this connection you need a TCP Connection to talk.google.com on port 5222, some time 443 is also used.

For example, at 23 august, many people logged in by using port 5222 to connect with the Google talkies gadgets.

Some time i go to chat by using port 5223.

 Thanks
