You can try spiceworks which is a useful software that can give you idea on what will be your database design. Spiceworks is an web program that is used for help desk system. It has a ticketing system for the issues that have reported and a portal for end users that want to submit an issue. It is also user-friendly and easy to set-up.

You can use the fields that spiceworks has to make your own help desk database design or sometimes you just have to create your own depending on the companies needs.

I’m currently using Help Desk software called Ticket desk. It’s an open source software. You have to do very little things to get it up and running.

First download the software from the following link:

http://ticketdesk.codeplex.com/

Then host it on your server and create some user accounts.

System is developed in .NET technology so you have to configure the email settings in the Web.config file which is available within the application file folder. Set your mail server settings and try submitting a new ticket. If the mail settings are working correctly you should get a email notification for the configured email addresses.
