Dear Techyv.com Experts,

I have been using Norton and McAfee as my anti malware app for my Windows 7 PC.

My problem is that it still makes my computer not completely secured.

Do I need to change my security software?

Hi Bray,

First of all, actual protection of antimalware app doesn’t really vary across operating systems.

And also, Windows 7 have already been improved in terms of integrating malware and virus protection. But third-party software is still important to ensure the best protection from any unwanted programs penetrating your system.

If you already have this kind of application it would already provide you the basic protection just ensure that your database for it is up-to-date by having a regular update of the software.

But if you still want to have an application most suited to the functions of Windows 7, I recommend these applications:

BitDefender, KasperskyLab, Webroot, ESET Nod32 and also Norton.

I hope this helps.

Microsoft Security Essentials is best antimalware app for windows application.

It is developed by Microsoft so it is very useful for Microsoft OS.

For Win 7 Combo of Kaspersky, Advanced System Protector and McAfee are good as well.

Advanced System Protector blocks the spyware before it enters into the system.

Norton and McAfee are two excellent antivirus products but don’t use both of them at the same time because it will create problems on your system. There should be only one antivirus or internet security application installed on your computer. As long as they are up-to-date, there should be no problem.

If you still feel not secured even while using these software, you can also install and use a virus removal tool like Sophos. On a computer that is infected with a virus with no antivirus installed, installing an antivirus may not be possible. The malware may usually block the installation process. A virus removal tool has its own special method that prevents the installation from getting blocked.

Download Sophos Virus Removal Tool and install. Once installed, start Sophos then wait for the virus signature database to get updated. When updating is complete, click to start scanning the computer. When a virus is found at the end of the scan, remove it then repeat the scan over and over until it no longer detects a virus.

The tool scans everything on your computer including devices connected via USB port. Aside from Norton and McAfee, the following security software are also good:

  • Avira Antivirus – supports Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10. It requires Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent AMD Athlon 64 or faster processor with SSE2 support, 2 GB RAM, and 2 GB free space.
  • Avast Antivirus – supports Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10. It requires Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent AMD Athlon 64 or faster processor, 256 MB RAM, and 1.5 GB free space.
