Hi there,

I have this error in Virtual Box after I have changed the settings in VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration. I have checked on the internet and my laptop supports hardware acceleration. Can anyone tell me please why is not operational ?

Thank you !

VirtualBox – Error

VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration has been enabled, but is not operational. Your 64-bit guest will fail to detect a 64-bit CPU and will not be able to boot.

Please ensure that you have enabled VT-x/AMD-V properly in the BIOS of your host computer.

Hello,

Make sure that your processor supports such technology. But today, most of the processors support those. AMD processors use AMD-V, Intel processors use VT-x. If you’re using a 64-bit guest OS, you also have to select that from your guest OS’s settings.

1. From VirtualBox’s main window, delete the problematic OS.

2. Create a new guest OS entry. Make sure that the ISO or CD/DVD contains 64-bit installation package and you’ve elected 64-bit from the OS list.

3. Run the guest OS.

If still facing trouble with such operation, make sure that such operation is supported by your BIOS. Restart your PC and press the “BIOS settings” button shown on the BIOS icon screen. There, find out the option saying “VT-x/AMD-V” and enable it.

Also, try the latest build of VirtualBox. Download VirtualBox.

Hope no more issue.

The hardware acceleration indicated in the error message is not referring to the hardware acceleration of your video card but the one found on your computer’s BIOS. “VT-x/AMD-V” refers to the virtual machine hardware acceleration or Intel’s VT-x hardware acceleration which is found on your BIOS. This hardware acceleration helps accelerate virtual machines created with VirtualBox, VMware, Hyper-V, and other programs.

To fix this problem and enable hardware acceleration for your virtual machine, you need to enable the Intel VT-x feature on your BIOS. Close VirtualBox then restart the computer and then press DELETE on your keyboard to go to the BIOS. In the BIOS, look for the Intel VT-x feature and enable it. Save the changes and then exit the BIOS.

After booting, start VirtualBox and see if the hardware acceleration is working.
