I just downloaded the Cyberlink PowerDVD software from the HP website On my Windows 8 PC. After few days that it was installed on my system, I received a notification that I need to update my software. I run the update but it failed and crashed. And now, when I try to open the program, it didn't work. I downloaded the latest Service Pack but it gives an error:

Unhandled Exception

Error Number: 0x80040707

Description: DLL function call crashed: CLScan.GetHybridVGAMode

Setup will now terminate.

OK

Can someone please help me restore it? Thanks.

Hi Bart,
The error is because there is missing or invalid path in the Windows registry.
The steps to resolve this error are as mentioned below:
1) Click 'Start', Select 'Run' option
2) In the run window, type 'regedit' and the registry window will open
3) Back up the Windows registry present in the system
4) Locate the 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' key and expand it
5) Select the key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSessionManager'
6) Right click on the 'PendingFileRenameOperations' key and select 'Delete'
7) Close the Windows registry and start the installation process again

You can get this error depending on the version of CyberLink PowerDVD you are installing which is also a sign of compatibility issue. So, before installing CyberLink PowerDVD, make sure your system is pretty much compatible with the version you are installing. Unfortunately you did not mention what version you are installing so I can check its compatibility.

Anyway, to make sure you will be using a much suitable version, download the latest version from CyberLink PowerDVD 13 Ultra. This latest version supports Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. Since you are already having problems installing that version of yours, discontinue installing it and install this one I mentioned above.

It requires 2 GB RAM and Intel Core 2 Duo 2.20 GHz processor and higher. CyberLink PowerDVD 13 Ultra supports Blu-ray 3D and TrueTheater 3D. To be able to access Blu-ray discs, your computer needs to be equipped with a Blu-ray drive because ordinary DVD drives can’t access or is not compatible with Blu-ray discs.
