I am using Windows 98, but it is not connected to the Internet. My files in Quickbook Pro starting 1/1/09 up to present were lost. I used the restoration system, but I did not used back up since I don't have any. I decided to start it in new company, and every files was successfully exported, but sad to note that upon opening the files, I can't open it, and it said “C;QbooksSWPre.Qbw” is not QuickBooks data file or it is damaged(-5). I've tried it over and over again, but still it doesn't work. Please, help me to fix this problem. Thank you so much.

Hello Deo,

You can't open files from quicbooks pro because the file that you are oprning can only be open or locateed in read-only folder network. Or in the machine that hosting the file,  only single user mode file is open. To be able to fix the problem, please follow the steps below:

  • Choose the Quickbook file menu
  • Choose close company
  • Select open or restore an existing file on the no company open window
  • Choose open company file .qbw or .qba
  • Hit the next button
  • From the company file list, choose the company file
  • Check mark the box beside open file in uder mode
  • Hot the open button
  • You can now log in as your normally do
