Hi all,

It’s so frustrating not being able to install Google Chrome 64-bit on my Ubuntu 11.10. I have the .deb file required for the installation. However, I cannot use Ubuntu Software Center to open it.

Ubuntu Software Center

All Software                      Installed                              History

Internal Error
The file"/home/dragon/Download/google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb" could not be opened.

What do I need to start the installation? Please give your opinion.

Thanks.

Hello Stepheen,

The Google Chrome version that you are trying to install is a 64 bit, and therefore you will need to make sure that your Ubuntu version is a 64 bit too. If the operating system is a 32 bit, you will need to get a Google Chrome browser that is a 32 bit too to avoid compatibility issues.

Otherwise, other things you will need to check are the following:

  • Make sure that you are using the commands properly at the terminal when installing the Google Chrome browser. Using the commands wrongly may be the cause of the error that you are getting right one.
  • If you haven't got the installation guide, I will recommend that you get it and let it guide you as you install.

Regards,

Carl
