Hey there,

I am planning to get an A+ Certification Passport but I have to first fix my Event Viewer in my XP computer. I need to know how to troubleshoot Event Logs.

If an error or a warning appears, what actions should I take? After viewing and reading, what is the next step? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, you guys!

For this purpose, do the following steps:

1. Goto Start>Run, Type services.msc

2. Set the startup type of the Event Log Service to "Disable", Reboot.

3. Again Goto Start>Run, Type %systemroot%system32config

4. Rename all .evt files in %Systemroot%system32config.

5 Now again Goto Start>Run, Type services.msc

6. Set the startup type of the event log Services to "Automatic", reboot.

Hello Maxie,

For you to be able to troubleshoot Event Viewer when it reports on startup that one or more of your log files is corrupt, you will need to remedy the situation as follows:

·         First you will need to open the Event Viewer.

·         And then you will right click on the corrupt log in the left pane and then click Properties.

·         After that you will need to click the Clear button in the Properties dialog box.

·         That is it!

Note that you cannot be able to get rid of  or rename the log files while the Event Log service is running, so you will need to ensure that it has been stopped.

Regards,

Carl
