Svchost.exe Application Error 0x00000000 After Putting Administrator Password

I put a password on my computer as the Administrator of it. Upon logging in after opening the PC, there is an error message of svchost.exe — application error the instruction at "0x745f2780" reference memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be read.

There are two options below:

One is to click OK, to terminate the program and the other one is to CANCEL, to debug the program.

The last thing I remember, was my computer runs Windows Update before my system shuts down. I booted to Safe Mode, but it doesn't change anything. I found some solutions online, but most of them are able to reach up to their desktop, while I'm not.

I tried repairing by inserting the recovery disk into my DVD ROM. I was able to start my system again. But then, when I open any application, the error appears again. I turned my updates off and manually go to Window updates to install some of it components. I turned the updates on again; then reboot and there is still an error.

I'm running Win XP Pro Service Pack 2. I want to know if there is anyone here, who knows the step by step procedure on how to open SERVICES.MSC and what to do next.

Please help me.

Hello Erin111,

I've read a lot about your problem. I personally had this problem a few years ago. Nothing could solve this existing problem. I read out a lot in the internet and at the last step had to set up Windows again.

Boot your PC and the setup directory must be on the CD ROM. Then if you are setting up Windows XP again , when the previous operating system shows up, you just ignore it and delete the primary drive (Drive 'C').

Then again format it and continue to install Windows. Once you're done, you use a good Antivirus software and scan the whole hard drive and enjoy the new Windows.

Thank you

Svchost.exe applications refer to as a “Service Host” in the registry of your windows OS.

First of all to you are required to run a free registry scan which will highlight all the problems on your PC related to the windows registry. Then use error repair to fix all the highlighted problems.

Next follow these steps:

  • Download the windows update v3 by visiting the Microsoft website WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe and save it to your windows drive which I am assuming in your case is C:
  • Then download the file fix svchost.bat and save it to the same drive mentioned above i.e. C:
  • Now download the following file WindowsXP-KB927891.exe and save it to the same drive C:
  • Reboot your PC and press F8 to log in to the windows XP safe mode by choosing the “Safe Mode” option.
  • Wait until the windows finish loading and then choose then log on as “Administrator”.
  • Click Start > Run, then choose the browse button to find a fix_svchost.bat file from the C:
  • A white screen will appear with the white text scroll past. This process will take some time and will close automatically when finish.
  • Click Start after the disappearance of black screen, again choose browse button and find WindowsXP-KB927891.exe file from C:. Follow the prompt until it installs.
  • Afterwards reboot your PC.
