The Sony Xperia J is a 3G Smartphone operating on 2G and 3G network bands using GSM and HSPA technologies. It was unveiled to the public on August 2012 and released on October 2012. It measures 124.3 x 61.2 x 9.2 millimeters and weighs 124 grams. It uses mini-SIM card. It has TFT capacitive touchscreen display with 16M colors at 480 x 854 pixels screen resolution.

It supports multi-touch up to two fingers protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. It runs on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich upgradable to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean powered by Qualcomm MSM7227A Snapdragon S1 chipset, 1.0 GHz Cortex-A5 processor, and Adreno 200 GPU. It supports microSD expandable up to 32 GB. It runs on 512 MB RAM with 4 GB internal storage where 2 GB of which is available to user.

The primary camera supports 5 megapixels with LED flash and autofocus featuring geo-tagging and touch focus and can record video in 480p. It has a secondary VGA camera. It has 3.5-millimeter jack featuring active noise cancellation with dedicated mic support; Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with DLNA and hotspot support; Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and EDR support; GPS with A-GPS support; stereo FM radio with RDS support; and microUSB 2.0.

It has built-in accelerometer, compass, and proximity sensors. The pre-installed web browser supports HTML5 with Adobe Flash support. Java is not supported. It has removable Li-Ion 1750 mAh battery with standby time up to 607 hours on 2G and 618 hours on 3G. Talk time is up to 5 hours 36 minutes on 2G and 7 hours 18 minutes on 3G.
