Surely, you can use your windows media player not just to play audio and video files but also to burn and sync your existing files. Windows media player supports a wide range of file types.

Windows Media Player does not DVD-RAM disk burning. Depending on your CD or DVD burner, you can burn CDs or DVDs in the following types: DVD-RW/DVD+RW/DVD-R/DVD+R as well as double layered ones.  

Windows Media Player directly uses the DVD/CD writer installed in your PC. To check if you have a working CD/DVD writer or burner follows this flow: Start > Computer > Right clicks your CD driver the choose Properties > Locate Recording Tab/No recording tab means no burner or writer.

Sonic is a separate and a stand-alone software which burns audio and video files independently.
