Toughbook doesn’t only refer to rugged computers but is actually a brand name. Toughbook is a brand name or a trademark owned by Panasonic Corporation and also refers to its line of rugged computers. It was introduced in 1996 with the CF-25 model and is designed to withstand or endure spills, extreme temperature, vibration, rough handling, and drops.

Laptops belonged to this line are used in a wide variety of industries like government, healthcare, construction, law enforcement, defense, manufacturing, oil and gas, emergency services, and telecommunications and utilities. Toughbook laptops are designed for lower failure rates than a conventional business laptop where you can expect lower total cost of ownership, less downtime, and fewer repair expenses. Panasonic introduced the Toughpad brand of rugged tablets in 2011.

It is built with almost the same specifications with the Toughbook series. During production, all units are subjected to a factory burn-in period and more than 501 tests and quality checks are performed, according to Panasonic. They carry out numerous independent tests to verify the resistance of Toughbook computers to outside forces.
