What is the Spider in a search engine? What is its role in the Search Engine Optimatiztion process? What is a Bot in SEO terminology? There are two ways in which a Spider finds relevant data. What are these? What is Metadata and how does the search engine use this in SEO?

A spider and a bot is the same. They only differ in the name they are called but basically have the same functions in a search engine. The basic role of a spider or a bot in a search engine is to crawl and read different websites. When it reads a site, it doesn’t only reads and accesses web pages but it also copies its contents.

The copied content is then stored in the search engine’s database and that’s where the search engine will look for the data when somebody made a query. While in the process of copying the content from one document, they generate record links and then send other bots or spiders to create copies of the content in those linked documents.

This is the usual process the spiders undertake and they do it over and over. Bots or spiders are designed to read website content like a human. It will begin reading at the top left corner and reads the content line by line. In case a spider encounters columns, it will first read the left column before transferring to the middle and right column.
