Seems you are too update. Don't be update. It's quite tough to give a solution without any specification of your phone. Still there is some common fact that every phone holds a part from Ringtone or Sound settings. You may already tried this still i am mentioning some way to increase ringtone sound :
1. Go to your Phone settings (You may able to find it from Option or Settings) > Then Go To Sound/ Ringtone settings > Volume (Increase it to Top)
2. Check your Phone Hardware ( by a mobile phone engineer ) you may need to change your phone speaker.

Firstly, Human can hear sounds of specific range of wave length. But in age difference it may vary. Human have the much ability to hear much better before the age of 20. After age of 20 human lose the ability to hear the sound of higher frequency
Secondly, Human does not concentrate about all the sounds that they hear. If, there are some different aged people in a crowd. At that time if a cat makes some sound. Then we see all the little kids trying to find out the cat, but the elders are in their own job.
This two are the basis of the special types of ringtone.
Your question was, How about other animals like my bird or cats?Yes, they can identify those sounds if they have the ability to hear that frequency contained sound.
About parents and friends: Friends can hear because they are also same age to you, but parents and teacher may not hear because I told already that after age of 20 we lose our ability to hear high frequency sounds.
