What are registries? I have recently installed CCleaner programme to cleanly wipe my recycle bin from time to time. There is an option in the program that helps detect registry entries and help me to delete them. I am always asked to back up the registries. Can anyone tell me why?

Registry is a file in the windows operating environment which is considered to be a database file. It contains all the information about the system like hardware specifications, settings, installed programs and profiles of each of the user accounts on the computer. At the time of running the program when the program revokes for the information’s, windows continuously refers to the registry. The registries are sometimes considered as a junk file but sometimes are very important for a program to run. Programs that have access to the registry can typically change the registry values for their need.

Some software’s like CCleaner are usually meant for cleaning the junk files. So it has an option for cleaning the registries. But for user needs it always ask to back-up the registry. So it is to be advised that a user should always back-up the registries and always trust the source for cleaning the registry.
