QuickBooks loading screen disappears when being launched

Anyone familiar with QuickBooks pro 2009 here? My hard drive recently crashed and I had a tech reinstall my program. However, every time I launch QuickBooks, it only reaches up to the loading screen and then just disappears. It is not in the taskbar or anywhere. The tech guy has no idea about what to do!  We tried calling QuickBooks support but they require me to have a support plan, which is just too expensive right now. I need help urgently.

Hi Qbpro,

I am quite familiar with your concern.

1. Has it ever worked before on the new hard drive?

2. What user installed it?

Yeah, QuickBooks support might seem expensive however if you use QuickBooks as part of your business then I really suggest getting a support plan.  I heard their support is above average. You might want to try them out.

1. No it never worked on the new hard drive.

2. The tech guy installed it, I guess he was an admin.

Ah! I think I may have the solution. Could you check if your user profile in windows is an admin user? Go to control panel > user accounts. Check if your profile is an Admin.

It's not an admin user. We made a new admin user and tried to open the program and voila, it did open. What happened? Does my user profile need to be an admin to use QuickBooks? This never happened before.

Yes, unfortunately QuickBooks requires you (especially the newer versions 2008 and up) to be an admin user, since it needs access to the qbregistration.dat file, which is an integral part of the QuickBooks program.

Sigh, I guess I'll have to do that just to get QuickBooks working for now. Thanks for the help buddy.
