Hello

I am using a laptop. I have portable hard drives and there are many shortcuts to different things on just one of them. When I try to plug that hard disc in, sometimes it turns into drive F and sometimes it turns into drive G. The shortcuts are just able to work if it is drive G.

I want to make sure it is constantly drive G. Is there any way?? Need your help to solve this. Please give me a solution. Thanks in advance.

Hi

You need to make your permanent drive as a portable drive and whenever you put the drive through USB it will show on the drive you want. This is possible by:

1. First off all connect your hard disk to all USB ports and then see on how many ports it will connect to the drive G and how many ports will give you the name drive F. So which port gives drive G use that port permanently for the portable hard drive? And also make it confirm if you use flash drive other than portable hard disk like USB then where you connect that because this is also possible that if you connect the device through any port it may take the name drive F and after that you connect portable hard drive it will show you drive G but when you firstly connect the portable drive it will directly show you drive F. So simple is that just make the single port permanently for the use of portable drive according to your wish and shortcuts.

I think it is possible to keep one of your portable hard drives in drive G if you don’t keep on removing them from your USB ports. If you can not keep them attached they will just keep on changing drive letters every time you connect and remove them. External hard drives and flash drives get their designated drive letters from the next available drive letter. So, if you have 2 fixed hard drives and 1 optical drive that will be drives C, D, and E. The next available drive letter would be F. So when you connect a flash drive or an external hard disk, it will be assigned to drive F.

So, if you want to make your portable hard drive stay in drive G then keep it connected for good.

Thanks a lot Iamexpert. I'll do what you say. I'll check every port and I'll only plug my harddrive to one port every time. Now my shortcuts will work properly. Thank you very much. Thanks TechyV!
