Hi Anonymous,
In lieu of your query re: being able to use an external hard drive on Chromebook..Â
Great news! Yes you can!
Make sure though that the external hard drive is formatted using FAT32.Â

The answer is IT DEPENDS (on the make and model of the chromebook)
Some models readily have external output; Some unfortunately, don't (especially if its a Chinese model).Â
Make sure you buy the right cables ok? (ex. VGA cables, HMDI cables, S-cables (this is really old) )Â

I hope that helps!

Actually, you can use any external hard drive on a Chromebook as long as its file system is supported. Chromebook works on these file systems: HFS+, Ext2, Ext3, Ext4, UDF, FAT, ISO9660, and NTFS. If the file system is a journaled HFS+, files are accessed as read-only. And this is the same for file systems ISO9660 and UDF. Chromebook supports file types such as .mov, .doc, .avi, .docx, .ogg, .ppt, .pptx, .ogm, .ogv, .xls, .xlsx, .wav, .oga, .3gp, .webm, .m4v, .mp4, .m4a, .mp3, .webp, .bmp, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .jpg, .tar.bz2 (.tbz2), .tar.gz (.tgz), .zip, .rar, .tar, .pdf, and .txt.
Chromebook is actually a personal computer running on Google Chrome OS operating system. This kind of computer is designed to be used while connected to the internet. It supports applications stored on the web instead of the traditional offline programs stored on a regular hard drive. The first Chromebooks for sale were launched on May 2011 at the Google I/O conference and were designed by Acer Inc. and Samsung.
