I wanted to open a PDF file but the system could not find the program to open it. I tried installing Adobe Reader X but received error message:

This product is already installed.

Error Code : 12010.

I then uninstalled the program from system and tried reinstalled the Adobe Reader X that I downloaded from Adobe Website, but I received error message:

Windows Installer does not permit patching of managed advertised products. At least one feature of the product must be installed before applying the patch.

Any solution on this?

Hi Kristina,

Regarding to your problem about the Adobe Reader X, here is the solution you can use to fix it. First, you must download the application called “Windows Installer CleanUp Utility 7.2” and install it in your computer.

After that double click on the icon to open and select “Adobe Reader X” from the list, next is the remove button. When you are done, close the application and go to the Adobe website and reinstall Adobe reader X again.

The Window Installer CleanUp Utility is provided to help resolve some installation problem for program that used Microsoft Windows Installer. It will remove the installation Information but not the actual program that were installed already in your computer so that you can start installation, upgrade or uninstall over.

However, there was a caution in using this application. It is not recommended to use this utility with 2007 OS products. If you used Office 2007 OS, you may uninstall the program from Control Panel.
