If you don't know then let me tell you that Gears of War uses the Games for Windows live software or you can say G4WLive. It clearly indicates that there is something wrong with the software and not with the installation of the game.

This is a very common problem with gears of war and many have found the solution. So I will narrow it down for you.

There was a update released by Microsoft to address this issue.

Actually there is a glitch that the old version functions improperly if your date is set after January 2008. You have to set the date before that and it will work good.

But this is something that you don't want to do every time you play the game. So here is the link to the fix

If you are referring to the first and original version “Gears of War”, make sure your computer meets the requirements. Since it is only a game you are installing, it normally doesn’t require some Windows components to be installed. The compatibility of the program is more focused on the operating system and the hardware installed on your machine most especially the video card, processor, and RAM.

The game “Gears of War” supports Windows XP and Windows Vista only. It will not run on Windows 7, Windows 8.x, or Windows 10. It requires 2.4 GHz or faster Intel Pentium or equivalent AMD processor, 1 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 6600+ or higher video card, Microsoft DirectX 9.0c, sound card, 12 GB free space, and DVD drive.

I also love playing games especially the RPG ones but with all the games I’ve installed and played, I haven’t seen one that launched a web browser during installation. This is odd. This is more likely to happen if the game you installed is not compatible with your computer. If you don’t meet the requirements mentioned above, you cannot install “Gears of War”.

“Gears of War” is the first installment in the “Gears of War” series released on November 7, 2006 and is originally for the Xbox 360 console. It is a game franchise created and originally owned by Epic Games, managed and developed by The Coalition, and owned and published by Microsoft Studios.
