Problem in deleting Exchange 2003 Server

I have tried all necessary steps in order for me to delete Exchange 2003 server.

  1. First, I use Move Mailbox Wizard in transferring the mailboxes from Exchange 2003 server to Exchange Server 2010.
  2. Second, I also moved the Offline Address Book (OAB) generation server and the public folder hierarchy to the new server’s admin group.
  3. Third, I moved all of the public folder replicas to Exchange Server 2010 Public folder store(s).
  4. Fourth, I have removed the public and private information stores, routing group connectors and recipient update service agreements from the old server. I used ADSI Edit in removing the service agreement.
  5. Finally, I deleted all exchange 2003 servers.

I have done all the steps above but still I got an error saying, “Setup encountered error while checking prerequisites for the component “Microsoft Exchange”:00080072030 (8240):

There is no such object on the server. ” I also have attached a screenshot image of the error. I hope this helps.

Any help from you guys is very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Dear Honey Morgan

It seems that a user account has been deleted and that user was assigned as the postmaster account, maybe he left the organization.

Let's use ADSI Edit again to find this user.

Go to CN= Configuration, DC= DOMAINNAME, DC= COM, CN= Services, CN= MicrosoftExchange, CN= EXCHANGEORGNAME, CN= Global Settings, Under "CN= MessageDelivery"

you will find the user selected as "msExchAdminMailbox" has been deleted.

To solve this error, you should assign another user to be the admin and add his DN "Distinguished Name" in this field. Once you have done, you can now uninstall Microsoft Exchange 2003.

Best of luck

Hello Morgan,

To completely remove the Exchange 2003 server,

There are some additional steps you need to follow with the steps you have already done. Please follow the following steps:

1. To initialize the un-installer you must run exchange 2003 server setup application to delete the installed components.

2. Now make sure that you have un-installed the registry keys by using the registry editor.

3. Now its time to remove the Exchange 2003 server from the active directory. Go to Start > Programs > MS Exchange > system manager.

This will completely remove the Exchange 2003 server from your computer.

Thanks
