Hello.  I get an Error 651 message with PPPoE links in Windows 7 operating system.

When I want to share my broadband link in windows 7, I find the following Error 651

The whole error looks like:

Connecting through WAN Miniport (PPPOE)…

Error 651: The modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error.

Here's a screenshot of the error.

Any ideas?

If you continue to receive error messages you can enable logging for analysis.

Enable logging For logging options, see diagnostics.

Logging options can also be accessed by clicking the Remote Access Preferences menu item under the Advanced menu of the Network Connection Folder

The error code 651 was a familiar bug that occurred in Windows 7, and is also existing on Windows 8. This error is received when you try to connect to the Internet through a PPPoE connection.

To fix this issue,

1. Simply replace the “raspppoe.sys” file located within your Drivers folder in the System 32 folder with this one.

2. Then navigate to the folder by opening the system drive (usually C:).

3. Open the Windows folder, double-click the System 32 folder and open the Drivers folder.

Before replacing the raspppoe.sys file, back up your current file by renaming it to raspppoe_old.sys. Copy the downloaded file, and restart your PC.
