Hi all,

Yesterday, I was faced with a problem I have realized that I can’t troubleshoot myself. This happened to my IBM MACHINE desktop installed with windows XP professional service pack 2 where when i click on turn off in the start menu. I only got the turn off and restart options.

But the standby option is greyed i. e.

It cannot be selected.

I Checked whether it had enough free space on the hard drive but it was enough.

Still am been faced by the problem even now.

Please help.

Thanks.

  • First of all right click on my computer and select properties.
  • Click on the device manager tab and select the system devices.
  • Add new hardware and computer will auto detect the APM.
  • Then installed it and restart your machine. The problem will be resolved.

The other method is:

  • Click on the start button and select the control panel.
  • After opening select the system.
  • When the window will open then check out all the driver are accurately installed.
  • The driver which have red icon then installed them accurately.

This will resolve the problem.

Thank You.

First of all update your Windows XP to SP3 and also install other updates.

Go to Device Manager and Check whether there are any issues with drivers. This option disables if you haven't installed your Chipset Driver.

Do it and it'll may solve the issue.

VGA also causes such issues, install your VGA Driver, don't rely on Default VGA Driver.

Also Check your BIOS Settings and make sure that S1 and/ or S3 mode are enabled.

XP supports S3 Mode and it helps in various suspend modes like Standby and Hibernate.
