Hi Julienlandonn,

XMedia Recode is a free all in one video and audio converter. It converts Blu-ray, DVD, AVI, MP4, 3GP, WMV, ASF, MKV, etc with easy-to-use graphical interface, fast converting speed, and excellent video quality.

As your question it will take 10 mints to convert 1.5 GB AVI file in to other format.

Some Good features of this version:

  • Video Editing.
  • Parts of the video cut off (crop).
  • With freely selectable frame color (padding).
  • Color Correction (brightness, contrast, gamma, hue, saturation).
  • Drag-n-drop of video directly on the encoder.
  • Selecting the picture size (1:1, 3:2, 4:3, 5:4, 5:6, 11:9,16:9, 16:10, 2.21:1).
  • Zoom (no letterbox, the media, Pan Scan, Fit to Screen).
  • Direct Stream Copy function.

If you want to know how long it will take to complete a conversion of a 1.5 GB AVI file to MKV format that would depend on the capacity of your computer. There are factors that affect the speed of the conversion and it doesn’t only rely on the speed of the processor.

If you have a fast processor, it will surely process data at the shortest possible time. But that depends on the capacity of the installed RAM. If you have a fast processor, 512 MB RAM, and 1.5 GB AVI, it will still take you hours before you finish the whole conversion.

Adding more RAM improves the speed of the conversion. Another factor is the cooling system of your CPU particularly the one focused on your processor. Installing an excellent cooling system for the processor greatly decreases the data processing time because the heat that the processor produces is greatly released creating a good circulation of air.

I can attest to the effectiveness of the cooling system with what happened to my old computer. I have an old DELL computer running only on Pentium 4 3.06 GHz Hyper Threading with only 768 MB RAM. With this setup, I used to convert an 800 MB AVI file to another format in more than 1 hour sometimes 1 hour and 30 minutes tops.

But when the blower of my processor just stopped working one day and I needed to replace it with another one, I noticed a big difference. I just bought from a person a modified version of the blower since I badly needed it. It is the same model though but got modified from the inside.

The thermal device connected from the inside where the exhaust air comes out was replaced with a different capacitor. This modification creates a big effect on the blower. It spins extremely fast at a steady speed and even if it is connected to the board, it still stays at the same speed which means the board no longer controls its speed. Here’s the image of what my blower looks like.

Though the blower is very noisy, it has a very good effect on my processor. It no longer generates heat. I can even hold it after removing it from the processor socket. It’s cold as if it was not used. Now, when I convert the same 800 MB AVI file, it only takes around 30 minutes to complete it and it’s a big difference.

Though my computer sounds like a jet fighter because of the blower, it performs at its maximum speed. I’m not asking you to also buy a modified cooling fan. You just need to have the best cooling system for your CPU to have the best speed. On the other hand, if you wish to download the latest version, visit XMedia Recode 3.1.7.4.
