Hey guys,

I wanted to install Power CLI on a PC I recently installed Windows 2008 server but the program brought up an error 'to fix this, you have to delete the following Registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeVMware, Inc. And I pressed retry. After this the program, Power CLI setup just goes on to the end without errors.

Vmware vSphere PowerCLI Installer Information: Error 1406.Could not write value InstallPath to keySoftwareVmware, Inc.VMware vSphere PSDK Runtime.  Verify that you have sufficient access to the key, or contact your support personnel.

I don't know why this error comes, but I know a way to get rid of this error. First, If you have already installed the VC client try to uninstall it and reboot the system.

Once the OS comes up try to open the registry by using 'regedit' in the run as folder. point to the below location in the registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/VMware, Inc

Make sure there are no other VMware products installed in your system. If no other VMware products are installed delete the registry entry of VMware, Inc from the registry.

Reboot the system once it is done. Install the VC client using administrative permissions.  I think it wont show any errors now

.VMware products are installed delete the registry entry

That error seems to be related to permissions. First thing to do is make sure you are using an administrator account when installing. If you don’t have an admin account or you are logged in with a limited or non-administrator account, ask someone with an administrator account on the computer to install the program for you. Next to check are the system requirements.

Check the system requirements and verify that your computer meets those requirements. VMware PowerCLI 6.5 supports 64-bit Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. This is for the workstation for the host operating system. For the server, it supports 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2012 R2.

For the guest operating system, it supports 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 and 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.10. If this is not a problem, try downloading a different version. Download PowerCLI 6.5 Release 1. You may need to log in to your account before you can download. Try also visiting this PowerCLI 6.5 Release 1 Google cache page.
