My new computer with Windows 8 operating system

Hi guys,

I've been using an XP system for a long time but because of many issues, I can't find any more fix for it. So I bought a new Windows 8 computer. I transferred all my files from old to new computer including the Windows Defender Antivirus. I want to know if I need to install my other security programs such as the Comodo Firewall? Or is the custom setup on Windows 8 is enough? If not, what else do I need to install so my computer will be secured from all the malicious threats?

Also, I used Firefox and Thunderbirds and connect to the Internet through Wi-Fi. But this Wi-Fi is from the other building near my house so I have no means of controlling the Wi-Fi set up and I don't even have any idea if this connection has a security key. But since I can connect to it freely, I assumed that it is totally unsecured. I installed Keylogger Encryption, AdBlock Plus, LastPass and yet I am still looking for any programs that will be needed for my browsers.

When paying bills online, I have the TrustConnect app to make it secure. It was working on my old PC and I want to know if I can still use it on my new computer. But if not, can you recommend something similar to it? I want a free version only.

Thanks in advance

Hi

It would be great if you buy and configure the Microsoft essentials. That is quite awesome. For safeguarding against WiFi, you need nothing extra and you can opt for only Microsoft essentials. However, you can look for privacy and security software and plugins, given here. You can try BetterPrivacy or better tab. You can get back the access to your lost trust connect account. For that you need to follow the steps being given here.

Tap start in notification bar and open settings screen. Tap connections in settings and then tap connections once again.

. I feel these tips will solve your problem. Tap add new VPN server connection. You should use friendly name for this connection. Add these as Host name/IP and select PPTP as VPN type.

  • us1.vpn.comodo.com
  • us2.vpn.comodo.com
  • uk1.vpn.comodo.com
  • uk2.vpn.comodo.com

Tap connect and enter the user name and password for your old trust connect account. Tap next and select default settings for the TCP/IP connection. Tap server and retain the default settings. Use server assigned addresses and keep other fields blank. Now tap ok in notification area and tap finish. In connections tap Edit my VPN server link. For connecting tap and hold newly configured connection and tap connect in dropdown. After authentication, you will find yourself connected to the trust Connect network.
