I took my laptop for a hard drive replacement and when I picked it, I noticed that the fan does not stop running. The hard drive is now functioning properly but the fan never turns off until I remove the battery. What could be the problem? How can I solve the issue?

This is one issue that I haven’t experienced yet with laptops. Normally, when you shut down your laptop, everything will stop running including the cooling fan because everything is controlled by the operating system. But since you said you sent your laptop to a repair shop to fix the hard drive, maybe something shorted in the connection of the cooling fan.

You should bring it back to the repair shop again since they are the one who caused the problem and it is their fault. The cooling fan is connected to a specific port on the motherboard and that’s where it receives control. If the technician transferred the cable of the cooling fan to a different connection then that will prevent it from stopping after turning off the machine.

Normally, even if you turn off your laptop, the battery is still feeding power to the board but in a much lower amount. If your cooling fan has been transferred to a different connection, maybe it is directly connected or it has a direct connection to the battery and that’s why it doesn’t stop even if the machine is already off.
