MS Excel crashes on startup

Hello, I have some documents I saved on a flash drive from a former work computer.  When I attempt to open some of the Excel documents, they automatically crash.  It is odd because some of them open fine and others crash and I cannot access them.  Is this an issue with Excel, my laptop, or possibly the flash drive?  Would it be beneficial at all to attempt to open on another laptop?

IT doesn't seem that your flash drive is giving the trouble. If it had been so, none of the files would have opened. But you have mentioned that a few of them are opening fine. So, those which are not getting opened, probably because they have not been saved/ transferred properly on your flash drive. In such cases, you understand that trying out another PC / laptop is not going to help you.

Write .xls/ .xlsx at the end of the name of the file, those are not opening. It might get recovered. If it does not, your file was not properly saved.

Tips: – Always try to keep backups on cloud/ mail and external hard drive. After taking the backup, always check that the backup has been saved properly.
