OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion is the ninth major release of the Mac operating system. It was announced by Apple on February 16, 2012 on their website as a successor to OS X 10.7 Lion and achieved a golden master status on July 9, 2012 and finally released on July 25, 2012 for purchase and download via the Mac App Store.
This new version of the Mac operating system includes a new malware-blocking system called “Gatekeeper” and is also integrated with Apple’s online iCloud and Game Center services. In this version, the Safari web browser is updated to version 6. This operating system received positive reviews with some critics praising Messages, Notification Center, and speed enhancements over the previous OS X Lion.
Also, along with positive reviews come the negative ones like the criticizing of the iCloud service because of undependability and the lack of games in the Game Center. OS X Mountain Lion is Apple’s most popular OS X release selling 28 million units by June 10, 2013.
To install and update to OS X Mountain Lion, you should meet the following system requirements: 2 GB RAM, 8 GB hard drive space, and your computer should be running on OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard or higher.
