Hi,

I have installed Mixxx on Windows 7 but the program has been popping up an error whenever am dealing with an MP3 file. I was thinking that it supports MP3 files. Isn’t that right?

Mixxx cannot record or stream in MP3 without the MP3 encoder “lame”. Due to licensing issues we cannot include this with Mixxx. To record or stream in MP3, you must download lame_enc.dll and install it on your system.

Hi Donald,
You will need to activate MP3 streaming in Mixxx, for Windows 7, for resolving you issue.Follow the below steps to do so:
1) Download the binary files for Lame 3.98.4 mp3 encoder, from the Lame encoder website.
2) Unzip the downloaded files using utility software like WinZip, 7zip etc.
3) The downloaded folder would contain files for bot, 32 bit and 64 bit Windows OS.For a 32 bit version of Mixxx, copy the libmp3lame.dll from the x86 folder to the folder location where Mixxx is installed.
4) For a 64 bit version of Mixxx, copy the libmp3lame.dll from the x64 folder to the folder location where Mixxx is installed. (Note: To know the the bit version of your Mixxx software, click on 'HELP' and then 'ABOUT' in the main window of Mixxx.)
5)Now rename this 'libmp3lame.dll' file to 'lame_enc.dll' in the installed directory.Restart the Mixx software and start recording or streaming MP3 files.
6)Important: Make sure you copy and paste the correct libmp3lame.dll file for the correct version of Mixxx. Else this would lead to compatibility errors and might crash the software.

If the program you installed requires Lame MP3 encoder to stream or record in MP3 format, try downloading LameXP. It is an audio encoder front-end for LAME MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, Opus, MP4/AAC, AC-3, and Wave Audio. It is a graphical user interface front-end for different audio encoders and decoders and allows you to convert your audio files from one format to another in the simplest way.

It supports Windows XP Service Pack 3 (32-bit only), Windows 7 Service Pack 1, and Windows 10 both 32-bit and 64-bit. It may also work with 64-bit Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Vista Service Pack 2, and Windows 8.x both 32-bit and 64-bit including Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 but aren’t tested extensively.

Another way is to install the “lame_enc.dll” file. Download lame_enc.dll and unpack the “lame_enc.zip” file with WinZip, WinRAR, or 7-Zip. Once unpacked, copy “lame_enc.dll” to the program’s installation folder then see if it works. If this doesn’t work, copy the file to “C:\WINDOWS\system32” as well. This should fix the problem.
