When you are formatting your text using Microsoft Word, you can choose to index or to expose the selected text as it is shown in the picture above

You can also use as shortcut Ctrl + = for index and Ctrl + Maj+ + for Exposant, first highlight the selected text you want to format then apply the wanted formatting.
