Hi guys,

I am posting here an error message that I encountered, I meet this error when I am about to open a Microsoft Word file sent to me via email attachment.

There is insufficient memory or disk space, Word cannot display the requested font.

The error message above gives a lot of headache to me, all that was said on that error I already check, I have a lot of hard drive space and my memory is above the requirements for Microsoft Word, regarding the said font I cannot check it since it was not stated on what is the font name.

Please share some ideas on how can I open this file.

Thanks a lot.

Hello,

It might be caused by corrupted print driver or most probably the normal.dot template might be corrupted.

So try this:

1. Click on START and Search normal.dot.

2. There should an search option to search SEARCH HIDDEN FILES files, check it through this.

3. If it does not find it, then try to research for *.dot, check SEARCH HIDDEN FILES again if it was not found.

4. If you find normal.dot, rename it to old.dot.

5. Restart your computer.

6. Open your Word again and it will create a template- new normal.dot.

There are a couple of things that can cause this. One is a corrupted normal.dot template, one is a corrupted printer driver, and the other would be some sort of third part add in.  So let's start with he simplest to try and that is replacing the normal.dot template.

  • Click on Start, go to Search, and in the Search box type normal.dot.  There should be a search option that you can check for 'search hidden files', make sure that is checked.  If it does not find it, try searching for *.dot.  It may be hard to find because it is a hidden file.

  • You may have to go into folder options and be sure "show hidden files" is checked.  Whenever you find normal.dot, rename it old.dot and restart your computer.

  • Open Word and it will create a new normal.dot template, which is what Word uses as a default blank document.

Hope this will solve your problem.

Thanks.

This error message comes due to a couple of things.

The most related causes are a corrupted normal .doc file or a corrupted printer driver or some sort of third party add ins. So let us try to solve the case with replacing the normal.dot template.

  • Click on ‘Search’ in ‘Start’ menu. Type ‘normal.dot’ in the search box.
  • In ‘More advance options’  check the option  “Search hidden files and folders’ and start searching.
  • If you can not get the normal.dot file, try to search for *.dot’.
  • When you find the normal.dot file, rename it as old.dot and restart the computer.

Now open MS Word and it will create a new normal.dot template file that is to be used as the blank document.

Hi Mark-fassy,

I have noticed this problem so many times.

However I have given a solution that might be helpful for you

  • Go to start menu and click on the search box.
  • You have to type normal. dot in the search box.
  • You must check a search option named by hidden files.
  • If you will not find out then type *dot and search again.
  • You need to go folder option and need to check “show hidden files”
  • When you will find normal. Dot then you have to rename it by old. dot and reboot your computer.
  • After opening windows try to open a request font and hopefully it work.

There are various types of fonts that can be used in Microsoft Word.

What is a font?

The font is a medium to write on a computer, and there are numerous font dimensions such as Times New Roman. Every font has its own style. You may check font name.font size. Select a particular font name click on the font name click on font size and have commenced to write by the selected font and font size you will get correct font.

The font doesn't work alone.

Microsoft Word cannot open file in requested font because your file has been sent to you via email. When you can be able to edit the save email then you will be able to change font and font size.

It cannot keep request.
