Hello,

I am new here and I believe you, experts, can help me with my issue with Microsoft Office Professional 2010. During installation/ set up, I encountered this error message:

Check your connection to the network, or CD-ROM drive

“Microsoft Office Professional 2010 (Technical Preview) encountered an error during setup
Error 1706.Setup cannot find the required files. Check your connection to the network, or CD-ROM drive. For other potential solutions to this problem, see SETUP.CHM”

What can I do to allow the MS Office Professional 2010 find the required files, given that I have successfully connected to the network and the CD-ROM drive is inserted?

Hello, Donna! You can get this solution from the Microsoft office solution community. You need to go “Start” menu to “All Programs”. Then go to the “Accessories” option and select “Run”program. In the small dialogue box, just type “%Programdata%” and simply click OK button. There will be shown a list of some folders and files. In fact, you have to choose “Microsoft Help” folder and simply rename that folder as “Microsoft Help.OLD ”. Hopefully, all problems will be solved. Best of luck!

Hi,

According to your post this error occurs if you installed office form a network administrative installation which is no longer available to you.

To solve the problem use a different alternative network administrative installation by following these steps:

1. Click Start->Run->Open box type “new network pathSetup.exe /fvm package name.msi”-> Ok.

2. Finally when the update finish click ok.

After you following steps, then  the installer will uses the new server location when it needs to reinstall or repair or add a feature to your office installation.
