Matlab 5.1 cant run in Windows 7

Hi,

I am a Communication Engineering student. I need to simulate different types of wave and signals. Everyone knows that MATLAB is the best software for that purpose. I had bought MATLAB 5.1 few years ago. Now after releasing windows 7 I can’t run MATLAB there. It says a serious error has occurred and MATLAB have to restart.

What is the problem there?

How can I get rid of it?

MATLAB is a simulation software which simulates using Matrix. When you bought MATLAB 5.1 you were a user of XP then. XP doesn’t have any User Account Control (UAC) which is the best option in Windows 7 I think. When you use MATLAB it needs to save its data in its setup Folder. So if you setup MATLAB in System Drive C you must need to permit MATLAB to use the Drive in any means that is not possible. So there is 3 possible ways to solve this problem.

1. You can get rid of this problem by turning off User Account Control (UAC). You can do that from Control Panel>System and Security > Action Center > Change User Account Control Setting.

2. You can also setup MATLAB in different folder other than C. Then it will not need any space in the System Drive.

3. You can download and install the latest version of MATLAB (2011, v7.12) from warez-bb.org.

I think this will solve your problem.

You probably were using Windows XP when buying MATLAB 5.1. As operating systems have evaluated, so did MATLAB. There may be some features like, for instance, UAC (User Account Control), that do not allow MATLAB older versions to run in Windows 7.

The best choice would be to get the newest version of the product, which is 8.0, released about a month ago, but version 7.8 or any other above it would also be acceptable.
