Laptop cannot find WiFi connections anymore

I normally use an Ethernet cable, so this in not of immediate urgency, but I am still curious. Normally my Laptop, a Sony Vaio, can pick up a lot of networks in my building, from the shop downstairs to the funny-named networks of the students upstairs. Recently, however, it seems to be unable to pick up any network, I tried flushing the DNS, but the situation did not improve. What could I try next?

Hello,

First of all, make sure you have not turned off the wireless toggle switch, as I do sometimes myself very oftenJ. If you are not, then look whether the switch is all right. If everything is alright then try to update your Wi-Fi card driver. After restarting you must be able to discover all of the networks again.
