Hey there, I guess there is a little misconception about them, although both kinds of software, are used to ensure security. An antivirus software is basically a set of programs along with proper documentation (software is a program plus documentation) which scans your device against ant malicious threat, virus, malware, etc. and prevents them.

An endpoint protection software is another class performing similar functions at endpoints of any connection. For example, if you are connected remotely to any of the networks, then your device and the network it is connected to, both become an endpoint. These critical points may serve as an entry point to the potential threats, and therefore, there is a class of software in to protect and monitor these endpoints.

A few examples of such software are ‘Webroot SecureAnywhere Business Endpoint Protection,’ ‘Panda Security Endpoint Protection,’ ‘AVG Cloudware,’ ‘Bitdefender GravityZone Business Security’ and many others. Hope it helps!

Endpoint Protection or Endpoint Security refers to an approach or methodology of protecting a business network when accessed by remote devices such as Smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other wireless devices. It incorporates tracking status, software, and activities. The endpoint protection software is installed in every network server and on every endpoint device.

Every device that connects remotely to the network creates a possible entry point for security threats. Endpoint security is designed to protect every endpoint on the network created by these devices. Endpoint security is frequently confused with several other network security tools such as antivirus, firewalls as well as network security.

Though endpoint security solutions have the same objective, that is, to secure devices, there is a significant difference between antivirus and endpoint security. Antivirus is about protecting computers whether single or multiple computers depending on the type of antivirus being deployed while endpoint security covers the entire system both the computers and the network. Endpoint security is about protecting every part of the network.
